SAWHERO A1 Smart Lock door compatibility guide

HARDWARE SETUP

Install your A1

Check your door dimensions first, then install and test each component in sequence.

01

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Check your door and package contents

The A1 is designed for common US doors with a 35-55 mm (1.38-2.17 in) thickness and a 60 or 70 mm (2.36 or 2.76 in) backset. It supports both left- and right-handed doors.

Prepare a Phillips screwdriver and four AA batteries. Batteries are not included. Compare all parts with the installation manual before removing your old lock.

02

LATCH & STRIKE

Install the latch and strike plate

Adjust the latch to match your door backset, keep the UP mark facing upward, and fasten it without overtightening. Install the strike plate on the frame and confirm the deadbolt can extend freely.

03

EXTERIOR ASSEMBLY

Fit the front lock

Keep the lock cylinder in the unlocked position. Pass the cable under the latch, route the spindle through the center opening, and hold the exterior assembly flat against the door.

04

INTERIOR ASSEMBLY

Connect and secure the rear lock

Connect the cable firmly without pinching it, align the interior thumb turn with the spindle, and tighten the mounting screws evenly. Insert four new AA batteries with the correct polarity.

05

INITIAL TEST

Detect handing and test with the door open

Complete the lock direction detection, then create the first administrator. The default administrator code is 123456 before setup or after a factory reset.

With the door still open, test the thumb turn, fingerprint, PIN, app, auto-lock, and mechanical key. Close the door only after the deadbolt moves freely.

SAWHERO A1 Smart Lock Smart Life app management

SMART LIFE APP

Connect and control your lock

Use the Smart Life app to manage your A1 remotely without purchasing a separate gateway.

01

DOWNLOAD

Install and register the Smart Life app

Download Smart Life from the Apple App Store or Google Play, create an account, and allow Bluetooth, local network, and location permissions when prompted.

02

PAIRING MODE

Prepare the A1 for Wi-Fi pairing

Connect your phone to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and stay near the lock. Keep the door open, enter administrator settings on the keypad, and choose Wi-Fi connection to place the A1 in pairing mode.

03

ADD DEVICE

Add the nearby lock in Smart Life

Open Smart Life and select the detected nearby device. Enter your Wi-Fi password, wait for pairing to complete, then give the lock a clear room or property name.

The A1 has built-in Wi-Fi, so no separate gateway is required.

04

VERIFY

Check remote control and unlock records

Open the A1 device page to confirm lock status, remote control, battery information, and unlock activity. If the status is delayed, refresh the device page and check both the lock and router connection.

DAILY USE

Manage access and lock settings

Add household members, create temporary access, and adjust everyday lock behavior.

01

MEMBERS

Create administrators and general users

Add each household member or property user separately so access can be identified and removed later. The A1 supports up to 200 users across the available access methods.

02

EVERYDAY ACCESS

Add fingerprints and PIN codes

Choose the user first, then follow the lock or app prompts to enroll a fingerprint or PIN. Scan the same finger from several natural angles and assign a recognizable name to each credential.

03

GUEST ACCESS

Create one-time or time-limited passcodes

Use temporary passcodes for visitors, cleaners, rentals, or service providers. Choose a one-time code for a single entry or set a start and end time for scheduled access.

04

LOCK PREFERENCES

Set auto-lock, volume, language, and unlock mode

Choose an auto-lock delay of 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 seconds. You can also adjust volume, select English, Portuguese, Spanish, or Chinese, and switch between single and combined verification modes.

Auto-lock extends the bolt after the selected delay. The A1 does not provide a door-left-open reminder, so always confirm the door is fully closed.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Fix common issues

Try these checks before contacting support. Keep the door open while testing lock settings.

The lock will not connect to Wi-FiCheck the network band and pairing state.

Confirm the phone is connected to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, move closer to the router and lock, and re-enter the Wi-Fi password. Place the A1 in pairing mode again before retrying. A separate gateway is not required.

A fingerprint is not recognizedClean the sensor and enroll the finger again.

Dry and clean both the finger and sensor. Enroll the same finger from several angles, then test it with the door open. Add a second finger or PIN as a backup access method.

The deadbolt is stuck or will not lockTest the bolt with the door open and check alignment.

Operate the deadbolt with the door open. If it moves normally, adjust the strike plate or door alignment. If it still binds, check latch orientation, cable routing, spindle position, and mounting screw tension.

The batteries are low or completely deadReplace all four AA batteries or use backup entry.

The Smart Life app provides a low-battery alert. Replace all four AA batteries at the same time. If power is already lost, use the exterior Type-C emergency power port for temporary power or unlock with a mechanical key.

App status or remote control is delayedRefresh the app and check both network connections.

Confirm the A1 has power and the home router is online. Refresh the Smart Life device page, reopen the app, and move the router closer if the signal at the door is weak.

Auto-lock extends the bolt while the door is openThe timer does not detect whether the door is closed.

This is expected behavior. Auto-lock activates after the selected time and the A1 does not include a door-left-open sensor. Make sure the door is fully closed before the timer expires.

How to factory reset the A1Use reset only when other troubleshooting has failed.

A factory reset erases every user, fingerprint, PIN, app connection, and customized setting. After reset, the default administrator code returns to 123456 and the lock must be configured and paired again.
