Install your RV door lock, create secure keypad access, connect Bluetooth app control, pair the remote, and solve common issues.
QUICK START
Follow these steps in order for the smoothest setup.
HARDWARE SETUP
Install each assembly in sequence, then complete every first-use test while the RV door remains open.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Compare the exterior keypad lock, interior lock, strike plate, cables, screws, remote control, and keys with the manual before removing the old lock.
Keep the RV door open throughout installation, setup, and testing. Prepare four new AA alkaline batteries; batteries are not included.
EXTERIOR LOCK
Place the front keypad lock flat against the outside of the RV door. Feed the cable through the opening without twisting, pulling, or pinching it.
STRIKE PLATE
Position the strike plate on the frame, tighten the screws evenly, and confirm the latch can extend fully into the opening without rubbing or binding.
CABLE CONNECTION
Support both lock assemblies while joining the connectors. Never let either lock hang by the cable. Seat the connection firmly and route the cable where it will not be pinched.
INTERIOR LOCK
Align the interior lock with the exterior assembly and tighten all mounting screws evenly. Do not overtighten or trap the cable between the lock and door.
POWER & TEST
Insert four new AA alkaline batteries in the marked direction. With the door still open, test the keypad, inside handle, mechanical key, latch movement, app control, remote control, and auto-lock behavior.
SMART LIFE APP
Use Tuya Smart or Smart Life for nearby Bluetooth control, then pair the included remote for quick lock and unlock access.
DOWNLOAD
Download Tuya Smart or Smart Life from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Create an account with your country, phone number, or email, then complete verification.
PREPARE THE LOCK
The R8 must have a local user password before it can pair with the app. Create the first administrator, then enter a valid user password followed by 1# and verify the administrator when prompted.
BLUETOOTH PAIRING
Turn on Bluetooth, stay close to the lock, and open the app. Allow the app to search for nearby devices, select the R8 when it appears, and complete the on-screen steps.
The R8 uses Bluetooth app control. If discovery times out, place the lock in pairing mode again and retry.
REMOTE CONTROL
Turn on the remote-control toggle switch inside the lock. Hold the round pairing button for about one second, then press the remote lock or unlock button once within 10 seconds.
DAILY USE
Create administrators and users, remove old access, and adjust the settings used during everyday RV travel.
IMPORTANT SECURITY STEP
Before any user is enrolled, any password with six or more digits can unlock the R8. After installation, immediately create the first administrator using the default administrator password 123456.
Once a user is added, the default administrator password becomes invalid and unregistered passwords can no longer unlock the door.
ADD USER
Enter 1#, verify an administrator, enter the new 6-10 digit password, then enter it again. The first three enrolled users are administrators; later users are general users.
DELETE USER
Enter 2#, verify an administrator, then enter the user ID followed by #. The first administrator cannot be deleted.
LOCK SETTINGS
Use 3# to set volume: 3 high, 2 medium, 1 low, or 0 silent. Enter 7101# for English or 7100# for Chinese.
Use 6# to set auto-lock from 5 to 1800 seconds. Enter 0 to disable auto-lock; when disabled, press # to lock from the keypad.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Try these checks before contacting support. Keep the door open while testing lock settings.
Turn on phone Bluetooth, stay next to the lock, and confirm a local user password has already been created. Re-enter a valid user password, press 1#, verify the administrator, and search again in Tuya Smart or Smart Life.
Confirm the remote-control toggle switch inside the lock is on. Hold the round pairing button for about one second, then press the remote lock or unlock button once within 10 seconds.
Wait the full 120 seconds without entering another code, then try the correct password again. Do not repeatedly press keys during the lockout period.
The default administrator password 123456 is valid only during initial setup or after a factory reset. Once the first user is enrolled, use the administrator password you created.
Replace all four AA alkaline batteries together when the low-battery voice reminder begins. If the lock has no power, connect an external 5V source to the Type-C emergency port, unlock the door, and replace the batteries. Emergency power does not charge the AA batteries.
Operate the lock with the RV door open. If the latch moves normally, realign the strike plate. If it still binds, check cable routing, assembly alignment, and screw tension before closing the door.
Enter 6#, verify an administrator, and choose an auto-lock delay from 5 to 1800 seconds. A setting of 0 disables auto-lock. When auto-lock is disabled, press # to lock from the keypad.
With the battery cover open, press and hold the settings/reset button for about 10 seconds. A factory reset clears all users, passwords, pairings, and settings. Set up a new administrator immediately before closing the door.
